Sehr geehrter Herr Minister,
Sehr geehrter Herr Spohr,
Mr. Vice Chairman,
Sehr geehrter Herr Böttger, sehr geehrter Herr Schmuck,
Szanowny Panie Marszałku,
I would like to thank you very much for inviting me to today’s cornerstone laying ceremony for XEOS.
The engagement of Deutsche Lufthansa in Poland is impressive. It started a long time ago, even before its first regular flight Warsaw – Frankfurt on April 2, 1971.
Over time, Lufthansa Global Business Services and Lufthansa System have started operations in Poland, too. Today, Lufthansa Group, with 356 weekly flights from Poland, is the strongest international airline group in this country.
I’m happy to see, that now, Lufthansa Technik AG as one of the world-wide leading provider for maintenance, repair and overhaul services for civil aircraft is building a high-technology facility in Poland.
In this new endeavour, which we celebrate today, Lufthansa Technik is joined by GE Aviation, a world-leading provider of jet engines, components and integrated systems for commercial and military aircraft. The success of GE Aviation can be best illustrated by the fact that every two seconds an aircraft powered by the famous CFM engine takes off.
In combining their excellence, these two global players have chosen to locate a new high-end Aircraft engine service and overhaul center in Lower Silesia. This is a clear sign of the trust that both companies place in Poland as a profitable investment destination. It mirrors the dynamic development of Poland’s economy during the last 28 years and especially after Poland’s entry into the European Union in 2004.
The project also reflects Poland’s potential as a site for technologies of the future. Entrepreneurs everywhere are preparing for new challenges. Globalization, digitalization and Industry 4.0 mightily drive today’s competition.
Poland as this year’s partner country of the Hannover Fair has shown that its industry is ready to take up these new challenges. The Government’s plan for responsible development spells out in detail which road Poland wants to take in the coming years to address the new challenges.
And last but by far not least, XEOS in Poland highlights the excellent quality of our economic relations. Over the last 28 years, they have grown to a level never witnessed before. The commercial and investment efforts are a pillar of our bilateral relations.
Numerous investments on both sides of the Oder stand for the increasing closeness of our countries and peoples. They are the basis for our competitiveness on global markets. And they prove the soundness of our bilateral relationship. It is worth remembering these days, that the fundamentals of our relationship are strong, very strong.
XEOS is a successful manifestation of the benefits derived from close cooperation between longstanding partners. With this project a new stage of cooperation between Lufthansa Technik AG and GE Aviation is reached.
The project attests to the successful cooperation of German and US companies in third countries and markets. It also represents a huge opportunity for the development of the Legnica Special Economic Zone. Providing highly qualified jobs, offering new training in specialized services and the creation of subcontractor businesses will certainly stimulate the zone.
When such important players as Lufthansa Technik and GE aviation join forces for an investment, we do not have to worry about the future. So let us preserve the positive spirit of Today for the challenges of Tomorrow.
Thank you for your attention.
